Inside the Discovery Engine: How Cutting‑Edge Robotics Drives Breakthroughs at The Wertheim UF Scripps Institute
The Herbert Wertheim UF Scripps Institute for Biomedical Innovation & Technology is renowned for its cutting-edge research and state-of-the-art facilities, making it a hub for groundbreaking discoveries in biomedical science. Join us for an exciting event where we'll highlight how University of Florida scientists in Jupiter have the unique expertise and advanced technologies to power major discoveries that address a world of unmet medical needs.
Hear from Tim Spicer, Ph.D., Senior Scientific Director, Department of Molecular Medicine, and a member of the UF Health Cancer Institute, whose work is accelerating drug discovery through state-of-the-art robotics and high-throughput experimentation. Dr. Spicer oversees some of the most sophisticated robotic screening systems in the nation - machines capable of running hundreds of thousands of automated tests to rapidly identify promising compounds for cancer and other diseases.

All proceeds go to the Palm Beach County Gator Club® Scholarship Fund, directly benefiting local high school graduates attending the University of Florida!

Hear from James Burke, PhD, about how the Burke lab, one of the 40+ labs at the Institute, is on a mission to uncover the secrets of how our bodies detect and fight off sneaky viruses like the flu, SARS, and West Nile virus. By understanding how our cells sense and combat these viruses, we can develop new treatments to protect ourselves from dangerous infections.
